What is an LED tube?
A LED tube is a sustainable fluorescent tube. This is because LED technology provides energy savings of at least 50% and contains no toxic gases such as mercury. Moreover, an LED tube lasts 2.5 times longer than a fluorescent tube. After all, the average lifespan is 50,000 hours.
Connecting LED tubes, how do I do it?
An LED tube is easy to mount in a fixture. Just slide the tube into the fixture and turn it a quarter turn. To check, you can gently pull on the light source to make sure the LED tube is firmly in place.
Do I have to convert my fixture when I switch to LED?
No, that is not necessary. Do ask yourself the question: 'What ballast does my fluorescent tube use?' Fluorescent tubes with a conventional ballast can be replaced by a LED tube with starter (LED starter is supplied) or operate directly on mains power. LED tubes without starter work with an electronic ballast or on mains. Unsure which ballast you have? UN LED tubes work with both.
Are LED tubes dimmable?
No, LED tubes are not dimmable. However, you can choose to replace a fluorescent fixture with a dimmable LED panel or a dimmable LED batten. These fixtures easily replace fixtures with fluorescent or LED tubes.
Which tube do I need? You compare a LED tube like this ...
You choose an LED tube based on the light colour (K) and light output (lm). Where 2700K and 3000K fit garages, shops and general areas, 4000K and 6500K are appropriate in work environments. 3300K is specifically for lighting food. Professional workplaces (ceiling of 2.5m) need at least 3000lm. LED tubes can illuminate up to 4m high.
What lengths / sizes are there?
The most common sizes for T8 LED tubes are 600 mm, 1200 mm and 1500 mm. Other lengths are 440 mm, 720 mm, 900 mm, 1000 mm and 1050 mm. T5 LED tubes generally have a length of 1150 mm or 1450 mm. Other sizes include 290 mm, 520 mm, 550 mm and 850 mm.
